Conference on

Political Economics

to be held in Villa Doria, Università Parthenope, Napoli,

Italy, 23-24 September 2024

In the last decades, domestic and international policymakers have faced major challenges, ranging from immigration flows, economic and financial crises, COVID-19 pandemic, armed conflicts, climate change, population aging. These phenomena have largely dominated the public and political debate and shaped voters’ preferences, beliefs, and electoral behaviour. Traditional political parties have struggled to respond to these challenges and populist parties are on the rise worldwide.

This EJPE-CEPR Political Economy Conference will bring together economic and political science researchers and policymakers to discuss state-of-the-art research on political economics.

The 2-day conference will take place in Napoli, Italy on September 23 and 24, 2024. The conference is jointly organized by the Institute for European Policymaking at Bocconi University (IEP@BU) and CEPR with generous support from the European Journal of Political Economy (EJPE) and Elsevier, in collaboration with the hosting institution in Napoli, Università Parthenope, and with the KOF Swiss Economic Institute at ETH Zurich.

We invite submissions of papers in the different areas of political economy, including:

  • Populism
  • Political Economy of Conflicts
  • Political Economy of Environmental Policy
  • Political Communication
  • Social Media
  • Voting Behaviour
  • Political polarization, particularly among young people
