Axel Ockenfels

Professor of Economics, University of Cologne

Axel Ockenfels is Professor of Economics at the University of Cologne, Speaker of the University's "Excellence Center for Social and Economic Behavior" and Director of the Cologne Laboratories for Economic Research. His research focuses on behavioral economics and market design, and has many useful applications in the Internet, electricity, climate, telecommunication, finance and other sectors, as well as for the management of firms. It has benefitted from collaborations with governments, market platforms, companies and research institutions mostly across Europe and the US. Ockenfels is a Member of the Berlin-Brandenburgische the North Rhine-Westphalian and the European Academy of Sciences, and the Academic Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. He received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (the highest endowed research prize in Germany), and the Gossen Prize of the German Economic Association.
