Harald Hau

Harald Hau is the Swiss Finance Institute Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of Geneva. His research interests are in international finance, financial markets and financial stability. After his PhD at Princeton University in 1996, he first taught at the French business school ESSEC and from 2001 to 2011 at INSEAD in Fountainebleau and Singapore. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, a Visiting Scholar at the International Monetary Fund, and the Wim Duisenberg Fellow at the European Central Bank.

He is affiliated with the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the Center for Economic Studies (CES). His analysis of information asymmetry in cross-border equity investments was awarded the Josseph de la Vega best paper award of the Federation of European Stock Exchanges. His most recent research on bank governance and the financial crisis won a best paper prize from Europlace and the 2010 Standard Life Prize of the European Corporate Governance Institute.
