Thomas Gehrig

Thomas P. Gehrig is a Professor of Finance at the University of Vienna. After studying economics at the universities of Frankfurt, Bonn and Berkeley he completed his Ph.D. at London School of Economics. He held academic positions at the University of Basel, the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and the University of Freiburg before joining the University of Vienna. He directs the Research Group on "Financial Crises" of the Austrian Research Association (ÖFG) and is a faculty member of the Vienna Graduate School of Finance. He regularly serves on program committees of the leading international conferences in economics and finance.

He held numerous visiting appointments among others at CEMFI in Madrid, Institut d'Analisi Economica CSIC in Barcelona, Tilburg University, ULB Brussels, Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Rice University, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, the Wharton School in Philadelphia, Collegio Carlo Alberto in Moncalieri, University of Strasbourg and SOAS, London. He is a Research Fellow of CEPR, ECGI, SRC (LSE) and a member of the market structure research group of NBER. His research interests are market microstructure, information acquisition in incomplete markets, financial intermediation, financial geography and banking competition. His research is published in leading journals such as European Economic Review, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Economic & Management Strategy, Journal of Financial Markets, Scandinavian Journal of Economics and Review of Finance and others.
