Unpaid tax

Last year, the UK failed to bring in £33 billion in tax. In this video, Arun Advani of CAGE at the University of Warwick discusses the role tax audits can play in helping to bring this money in. One in three people under-report the tax they owe, but those who are audited pay higher levels of tax in the following years. In addition, audits are very effective at picking up the small group of people who owe over half of the total tax that is missing.
