On Wednesday, 5 July 2023, 05:00 - 06:30 PM (CEST), the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the Research Policy Networks (RPN) Climate Change and Preventing Conflict: Policies for Peace organised the online launch of the eBook Peace not Pollution: How Going Green Can Tackle Climate Change and Toxic Politics.

Resistance to green policy measures underscores the importance of effectively communicating and addressing distributional consequences to prevent exploitation by populist politicians. Further, the Ukraine conflict highlights the risks of fossil fuel dependency. This new eBook features contributions from leading economists and practitioners who provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges, initiatives, policy solutions and far-reaching impacts of ‘going green’. The stakes could hardly be higher – a successful green energy transition will yield the double-dividend of not only saving the world from looming environmental disaster, but also combatting toxic policies and reducing the risk of armed conflict around the globe.

The eBook editors  Christian Gollier (Toulouse School of Economics, EAERE, CEPR & Climate Change RPN Leader) and Dominic Rohner (HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne, CEPR & Preventing Conflict: Policies for Peace RPN Leader) introduced the eBook, followed by presentations by chapter authors Estelle Cantillon (ULB, Toulouse School of Economics, CEPR & Climate Change RPN Member), Tatyana Deryugina (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and Rick van der Ploeg (Oxford, CEPR & Climate Change and Preventing Conflict: Policies for Peace RPNs Member). The presentations were followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
