'Economic blogs are doing more than providing a new source of procrastination for writers and readers,' conclude the authors of CEPR DP8558. The authors provide empirical evidence that economics blogs increase the dissemination of new research, improve the reputation of both the blogger and often the blogger's institution, and can influence the knowledge and opinions of readers.
