Bruno van Pottelsberghe de la Potterie

Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (SBS), ECARES, CEPR Fellow and Senior Fellow at Bruegel, a Brussels-based Think-Tank.

Bruno van Pottelsberghe is Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Solvay Business School. As holder of the Solvay S.A. Chair of Innovation he teaches courses related to the Economics and Management of Innovation and Intellectual Property. For his research activities, Bruno van Pottelsberghe is affiliated to ECORE (ULB), CEPR London, CEB and DULBEA). His research interests focus on S&T policies, patent policies, regulations and innovation. In addition to numerous scientific articles he recently (March 07) published a book, jointly authored with Dominique Guellec, at Oxford University Press, which is entitled: The Economics of the European Patent System.

Bruno van Pottelsberghe has recently joined BRUEGEL as Senior Research Fellow. He has been Chief Economist of the European Patent Office (EPO) from November 2005 to the end of 2007. His task was to inform EPO authorities with economic related matters and to conduct studies and projects on economic aspects of patenting in Europe. During his career he has been Visiting Researcher at the Columbia Business School (NYC) and the Research Institute of the METI (Tokyo), and Visiting Professor at the Institute of Innovation Research of Hitotsubashi University (Tokyo), the University of Stellenbosh Business School (Cape Town), the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Economics University of Hanoi.
