Christian Upper

Head of Emerging Markets, Monetary and Economic Department, Bank for International Settlements

Christian Upper is Head of Emerging Markets in the Bank for International Settlements' Monetary and Economic Department. He joined the Bank in 2005 as a Senior Economist in the Financial Markets unit, served as Head of Monetary Policy and Exchange Rates and of Financial Markets before moving to his present position in August 2015. Previously, he worked at the Deutsche Bundesbank. He holds a Doctorate in Economics of the European University Institute in Florence and Master degrees of the Universities of Edinburgh and Warwick. His research spans the areas of financial intermediation, market microstructure and macroeconomics, and has been published in academic journals as well as Bundesbank and BIS publications.
