Diederik Boertien is a sociologist interested in relationships and inequality. Some questions that have been central to his research are: Why do higher educated and rich people divorce less than more disadvantaged individuals in Western societies today? How do family dynamics affect individual wealth, income inequality and wealth inequality? How does sexual orientation affect socioeconomic opportunities and family life? His findings on these topics have been published in journals such as the Demography, European Sociological Review, and Journal of Marriage and Family.
