Elena Loukoianova

Senior Economist, Monetary and Capital Markets Department, IMF

Elena Loukoianova is a Senior Economist at the Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM) at the International Monetary Fund. In 2008–10, she worked as a Senior Economist and Director in the EMEA Emerging Markets Research Department at Barclays Capital in London and as a Senior Economist at the Evaluation Department at the EBRD. Prior to that, she worked as an Economist in Monetary and Capital Markets, African, and European II Departments at the IMF.

Her main research interests include banking structure and risk, systemic risk assessment, and stress testing for banking systems. She is currently working on stress testing analysis for various countries within the Financial Stability Assessment Program (FSAP). Other research projects deal with the relationship between banking sector structure and crises. Elena has published in the Journal of Derivatives, European Economic Review, and Public Finance and Management, as well as a number of working papers in the IMF working paper series. Elena holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge, England.
