Erik van der Marel

Senior Economist at ECIPE & Université Libre de Bruxelles

Erik van der Marel is a Senior Economist at ECIPE, consultant economist at the World Bank’s Trade & Competitiveness Department, as well as Lecturer at post-graduate level at the Economics Department of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). His research interests are in services trade, digital trade and global value chain trade. He is currently manager of ECIPE’s Digital Trade Restrictiveness Index (DTRI).

Erik received his PhD in International Economics from Sciences-Po Paris. He has published in several economics journals including the World Economy, Review of Development Economics and World Trade Review, and has contributed to various books. Before joining ECIPE and the ULB, he was a full-time Lecturer at the London School of Economics (LSE) teaching international trade. Erik also holds a blog called “Bruxenomics”.
