Gareth Campbell

Lecturer in Finance at Queen's University Belfast

Gareth Campbell is a Lecturer in Finance at Queen's University Belfast. He was recently awarded the New Researcher Prize at the Economic History Society annual conference which was held in the University of Warwick on 3-5 April 2009. Gareth is in the final stages of his PhD which focuses on the railway mania that occurred in Britain during the 1840s. During this period the prices of railway shares rose sharply, but the market then crashed, and the value of those shares declined dramatically. Gareth has investigated the causes and consequences of these price movements, and has drawn parallels with the current credit crunch and the housing bubble which preceded it.
