Gareth Edwards-Jones

Professor of Agriculture and Land Use at Bangor University and Professor of Sustainable Agriculture at Aberystwyth University

Gareth Edwards-Jones has posts as Professor of Agriculture and Land Use in Bangor University, UK and as the Waitrose Professor of Sustainable Agriculture at Aberystwyth University, UK. His works centres on three themes: greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from agriculture, economics of nature conservation and the economics of disease in the food chain. As part of his work on GHG emissions has has worked with over 120 businesses in order calculate the 'carbon footprint' of their produce and identify carbon reduction programmes for these businesses. He has a particular interest in GHG emissions from agriculture in developing countries, and how the climate change agenda will affect small farmers.

Gareth graduated from Manchester University with a degree in biology before completing a PhD at Imperial College, London in population and community ecology. He then joined the Rural Resource Management Department at SAC (Edinburgh) in 1990 as a Senior Bioeconomist. He became Head of the Rural Resource Management Department in SAC in 1995, and got the Chair of Agriculture and Land Use in the Bangor University in 1998.
