Gregory Clark

Professor of Economics, University of California, Davis; CEPR Research Fellow

Gregory Clark is Professor of Economics at the University of California, Davis, Visiting Professor of Economic History at LSE, and a research fellow at CEPR. He gained a PhD in Economics in Harvard University in 1985.  His current research is on the history and nature of social mobilityover multiple generations, investigated using both surname status, and also a newly constructed genealogical database of 320,000 English people born 1750-2018.  Clark's books include: The Son Also Rises: Surnames and the History of Social Mobility, Princeton University Press, 2014 (with Neil Cummins et al.); and A Farewell to Alms: A Brief Economic History of the World, Princeton University Press, 2007.
