James Kwak

Associate Professor at the School of Law, University of Connecticut

James Kwak is an Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Law. He co-authored 13 Bankers: The Wall Street Takeover and the Next Financial Meltdown, a New York Times bestseller chronicling the rise of the financial sector over the past three decades, and White House Burning: The Founding Fathers, Our National Debt, and Why It Matters To You, a history and analysis of government deficits and the national debt.

He is the co-author of The Baseline Scenario, a leading blog covering economics and public policy, and an Online Columnist for The Atlantic. His articles have appeared in many publications, including Democracy, The American Prospect, Finance and Development, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times, and on the web sites of The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, NPR, Foreign Policy, and The Financial Times.

In 2011–2012, he was a Fellow at the Harvard Law School Program on Corporate Governance. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Center for Human Rights. James has an A.B. in social studies from Harvard, a Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Berkeley, and a J.D. from the Yale Law School. Before going to law school, he worked as a Management Consultant at McKinsey and Company and co-founded Guidewire Software. He lives in Amherst, Massachusetts, with his wife and and two children.
