James Manyika

Chairman and Director, McKinsey Global Institute

James Manyika is Chairman and Director of the McKinsey Global Institute. James is also a Director (Senior Partner) at McKinsey, a leader in its Technology Media Telecom Practice. Based in Silicon Valley for 20 years, he has advised many of the world’s leading technology companies and their Chief Executives. James has led research on global economic trends, including the digital economy, globalization, growth and productivity, innovation and competitiveness and labour markets. He has published a book on AI and robotics as well as numerous academic and business papers and reports and recently a co-author of No Ordinary Disruption: The four global forces breaking all the trends.

He was appointed by President Obama to the US President’s Global Development Council at the White House in 2012 and to serve as Vice Chair since 2013-present. He was appointed by the Sec of Commerce to the Innovation Advisory Board as part of the COMPETES ACT. He is on the boards of the Council on Foreign Relations, Aspen Institute, Harvard’s Hutchins Center, Oxford Internet Institute, UC Berkeley’s iSchool, and he is a Non-resident Senior Fellow of Brookings Institute and member of the Bretton Woods Committee. A Rhodes Scholar, James holds DPhil, M.Sc. M.A. from Oxford in Robotics, Mathematics and Computer Science, and a BSc. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Zimbabwe, where he graduated with a first.
