Jan Lorenz is an applied mathematician and social scientist who works on modeling of socio-economic systems. He is interested in phenomena of economic growth emerging through redistribution or the interplay of imitation and innovation. He also worked on measuring social cohesion and on dynamics of opinion and attitude formation and how it influences the wisdom of the crowd in collective judgement or democratic collective decision making. He works genuinely transdisciplinary in political science, economics, social psychology and the dynamics of complex social economic systems employing experiments, exploratory data analysis, game theory and computer simulation.

Jan Lorenz graduated at the University of Bremen. He was a post-doc at ETH Zurich at the Chair of Systems Design. He currently heads a research group on opinion dynamics and collective decision at Jacobs University Bremen and is affiliated with the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences.
