Lars Calmfors

Lars Calmfors is Professor Emeritus of International Economics at the Institute for International Economic Studies, Stockholm University and Research Fellow at the Research Institute of Industrial Economics, Stockholm. He chaired the Economic Council of Sweden, advising the Ministry of Finance, 1993-2001, the Swedish Government Commission on the EMU (the Calmfors Commission) 1995-96, the European Economic Advisory Group at CESifo 2006-08, the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council 2007–11, and the Swedish Labour Policy Council 2015–18.

He was a Member of the Council of the European Economic Association 1991–96, a Member of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences 1996-98 and 2003-07, a Member of the Academy's Board 2001-07, and a Member of the Board of the Swedish Research Council 2007–12. He has been heavily involved in both the Swedish and the European economic policy debate. His main research has been on wage setting and labour market institutions, the determination of employment and working time, labour market integration of immigrants, monetary union, macroeconomic policy and fiscal policy institutions.
