Lars Calmfors

Professor of International Economics, Institute for International Economic Studies, Stockholm University; Chair, Swedish Fiscal Policy Council

Lars Calmfors is Professor of International Economics at the Institute for International Economic Studies, Stockholm University and Chair of the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council. He chaired the Economic Council of Sweden, advising the Ministry of Finance, 1993-2001, the Swedish Government Commission on the EMU (the Calmfors Commission) 1995-96, and the European Economic Advisory Group at CESifo 2006-2008. He was a Member of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences 1996-98 and 2003-07, and Member of the Academy's Board 2001-07.

He is currently a Member of the Board of the Swedish Research Council. He has been heavily involved in both the Swedish and the European economic policy debate. His main research has been on wage setting and labour market institutions, the determination of employment and working time, monetary union, macroeconomic policy and fiscal policy institutions.
