Margherita Russo

Professor of Economic Policy, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy

Margherita Russo is Full professor of Economic Policy at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. Her main research interests include: analysis of processes of innovation and competence networks, effects of innovation on the organisation of labour, structure and change in local productive systems, evaluation of innovation policies, industrial districts, network policy modelling and assessment, socioeconomic impact of natural multi-hazard disasters, innovation in industrial districts, automotive global supply chain, international trade. 

She is member of international research projects on innovation an automotive industry. She has directed research projects on the mechanical industry in Italy, on the assessment of policy innovation networks and on the socio economic effects of the 2012 earthquake in Emilia (Italy). In the period 2000-2015 she directed "Officina Emilia", a project of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia aiming at the regeneration of competences needed for re-industrialization (to foster innovation in the local industry) and at increasing the quality of the education system. In the years 205-2018 she directed the research project "Energia Sisma Emilia" on the analysis and models of the socio-economic impact of disaster risk reduction and aiming at assessing the impact of the 2012 earthquake in the Emilia-Romagna (Italy). She has been appointed Representative of Italy in the OECD WPTIP-Working Party on innovation and technology policy, sub group of the Committee for scientific and technological policy (CSTP) (2016-2021) and Representative of the Italian Ministry of University and Research in the EUSALP - European Union Strategy for Alpin Regions, Action 1-“To develop an effective research and innovation ecosystem” (2016-2021). 

She is currently member of the scientific commettees of Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini, Gerpisa.
