Michele Valsecchi is Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Gothenburg, and Visiting Postdoc at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. His research focuses on political and economic institutions in developing countries. One recent project estimates ethnic favoritism exists both inside and outside Africa and investigates whether it is driven by electoral reasons. Another project studies the link between politicians' incentives in office and corruption among their bureaucrats. His PhD dissertation studied whether changes in land property rights in the 1990s can explain the dramatic increase in migration to the US that Mexico experienced during the 1990s. In the past he has been Visiting Fellow at London School of Economic and Stockholm University.
