Pierre-Philippe Combes is CNRS Research Professor at the Aix-Marseille School of Economics and CEPR Research Fellow. He was Visiting Professor at Boston University (2001-2003), CNRS Researcher Fellow at CERAS (now Paris School of Economics) (1997-2001) and PhD Student at CREST / EHESS (1993-1997). He studies economic geography, both from the theoretical and empirical points of view. He published with Jacques-François Thisse and Thierry Mayer Economic Geography, The Integration of Regions and Nations, a textbook at Princeton University Press (2008).

He published regularly in the Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics and Journal of Economic Geography, of which he then became a member of the editorial boards. He has also published in the Journal of International Economics, Journal of the European Economic Association, Labour Economics, Exploration in Economic History, Econometrica. Current research focuses on the estimation of the gains and costs of agglomeration using individual data.

CEPR Policy Research
