Pierre-Yves Geoffard is professor at the Paris School of Economics, and at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales. His main research interests are risk and insurance economics, and the study of health and health care systems. He obtained a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Paris-Dauphine, was a post-doc at Stanford and Chicago, and also worked for a time as a quantitative researcher for Caisse des Dépôts, a financial institution.

His early contributions include some of the first papers on economic epidemiology, mostly written with Tom Philipson, and published in American Economic Review, Biometrika, or International Economic Review.

After serving as the director of the Paris School of Economics between 2013 and 2019, he is now more involved in interdisciplinary research projects. Together with sociologists Nathalie Bajos and Muriel Darmon and epidemiologist Michelle Kelly-Irving, he is leading an ambitious project on Gender and Health Inequalities, which obtained an ERC Synergy Grant in 2019.
