Selin Sayek

Associate Professor of Economics, Bilkent University

Selin Sayek is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Bilkent University. She received her BS from Middle East Technical University in 1993, and her PhD from Duke University in 1999, both in economics. Prior to her current position she was an Assistant Professor at Bentley University, followed by her work as an Economist at the International Monetary Fund. She has worked on several consultancy projects with the World Bank.

Sayek’s research interest spans many topics in international economics, in particular the productivity and labour market implications of multinational firms, economic crises and trade. Her research on these themes has been published in journals such as the Journal of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, and Economic Policy.

She has been a recipient of awards from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Mustafa Parlar Foundation and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Since 2011 she has also been serving as the Chair of the Department of Economics at Bilkent University in addition to being the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Social Sciences since 2013. She is on the Advisory Board of the Social Sciences Group of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).
