Sofronis Clerides

Professor of Economics, University of Cyprus

Sofronis Clerides is a Professor of Economics at the University of Cyprus. He hοlds a BA in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin and a PhD in Economics from Yale University. He has worked as a researcher at the World Bank; he has taught at Yale University, the European University Institute and Georgetown University; and he was a visiting scholar at Northwestern University. He is currently a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and a Senior Fellow at the Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis.

His primary research field is empirical industrial organization. He has worked on issues relating to pricing, price discrimination, and quality assessment. He has also done work on international trade issues such as the link between exporting and productivity and international trade in used goods, and has written extensively on the Cyprus financial crisis. Currently he is working on understanding consumer behavior in markets for durable and storable goods.
