Stavros Zenios

Professor of finance and management science at University of Cyprus, Member of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts, Non-resident Fellow at Bruegel, and Senior Fellow at the Wharton Financial Institutions Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

Currently working on debt sustainability issues and the pricing and risk management of political risk. He published more than 150 articles in journals such as Management Science, J. of Banking and Finance, J. of Economic Dynamics and Control, Operations Research, Quantitative Finance, SIAM Journal on Optimization, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software. His book Practical Financial Optimization. Decision making for financial engineers was published by Blackwell-Wiley Finance, and his book with Patrick Harker Performance of Financial Institutions (Cambridge University press) was translated in Chinese. He edited the Handbook of Asset and Liability Management for Elsevier.

He has received numerous prizes and awards, including the EURO Excellence in Practice Award for work oin personal financial planning (with Andrea Consiglio and Flavio Cocco) and the ΙNFORMS ICS Prize for his book Parallel Optimization. Theory, algorithms and applications (with Y. Censor, Oxford University Press). An updated list of publications is posted on Google Scholar. Before joining University of Cyprus he was a tenured Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and held visiting appointments at MIT, University of Haifa and Universities in Athens, Italy and Argentina. He worked as a Consultant for the BIS, ESM, the World Bank and several financial institutions in the USA, Switzerland, Italy and Cyprus. He served two terms as Rector of the University of Cyprus and as President of UNICA (Universities of the European Capitals), and on the Board of Central Bank of Cyprus.
