Steven Poelhekke

Associate Professor of Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam; Economist, De Nederlandsche Bank

Steven Poelhekke is Associate Professor of Economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and affiliated to the Tinbergen Institute, CESifo, OxCarre, and the Research Department of De Nederlandsche Bank (Dutch central bank). His current areas of research focus on the impact of non-renewable natural resources, foreign direct investment, and trade. He is a Dutch national and holds a PhD from the European University Institute, Florence, Italy.

He has published across several fields such as foreign direct investment, international banking, the macroeconomic and the local impact of natural resource extraction, and urbanisation. These have appeared among others in the Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Development Economics, European Economic Review, and the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management.
