Sumru Altuğ

Professor and Chair at the Department of Economics, American University of Beirut

Sumru Altuğ  is currently Professor and Chair at the Department of Economics, American University of Beirut. She received her Ph. D. in Economics from Carnegie-Mellon in 1985  and she held regular or visiting Assistant Professor positions at Minnesota (1984–1994), Wisconsin (1988–1989), Duke (1990–1991) and VPI and SU (1994–1995). She also held Full Professor positions at Durham and York in the UK (1999–2002) and at Koç University in  Istanbul, Turkey (2003-2018). She has been a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research, London, UK since 1997 and served as the Director of the KU-TUSIAD Economic Research Forum in Istanbul between 2010-2015. 

She served as an Associate Editor for the Economic Journal  between 2000–2003 and was a member of the Economic and Social Research Council Politics, Economics, and Geography (PEG) Research College, UK  between 2001–2003. Prof. Altuğ works in the area of dynamic macroeconomics, business cycles, and structural econometrics.   She has co-authored or co-edited five texts in macroeconomics and finance, including Dynamic Macroeconomic Analysis: Theory and Policy in General Equilibrium and Asset Pricing for Dynamic Economies, issued from Cambridge University Press in 2003 and 2008, respectively, and published papers in top economics journals as well as field journals in her area.
