Xiaoqing Zhou is a Senior Economist at the Bank of Canada. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan. Her main research interests are macroeconomics, household finance, and energy economics. Her current research focuses on consumer finance choices at the microeconomic level and their macroeconomic implications. For example, she has studied how shocks in the housing market affect household borrowing and spending, which in turn explains aggregate fluctuations in consumption and residential investment. She has also worked on the consumption and income effect of government spending shocks, on Chinese housing policies, on oil price forecasting, on the effects of lower oil prices on the U.S. economy, and on quantifying fluctuations in the global business cycle.
