Antonio Garcia Pascual

Managing Director and Chief European Economist, Barclays

Antonio Garcia Pascual is a Managing Director and Chief European Economist at Barclays, based in London. Prior to his appointment at Barclays in 2010, he was a senior economist at the monetary and capital markets department of the International Monetary Fund (2002-10). In this capacity, Mr Garcia Pascual was appointed IMF Representative at the Research Task force of the Basel Committee 2006-08 and collaborated with various central banks. He was directly involved in IMF program negotiations during the global financial crisis. Prior to the IMF, Mr Garcia Pascual taught International Finance and Econometrics at the University of Munich (1999-2002) and joined the CESifo Research Network of which he is still a member. His research has been published in academic journals, including the Journal of International Money and Finance, Oxford Economic Papers, and the Review of International Economics, and has been cited widely by international media, including the Economist, the NYT, the WSJ and the FT. Mr Garcia Pascual obtained his BA in Economics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and his MA and PhD in Economics from UCSC.
