Ryoko Ueda

Senior Research Fellow, J-IRIS Research

Ryoko Ueda is a senior research fellow at J-IRIS Research and a lecturer in Business Law at Meiji Gakuin University. She is a member of the ICGN Shareholder Responsible Committee. She was a special researcher of the Financial Research Center at the Japan Financial Services Agency (FSA) and is a member of many Japanese government councils including the Council of Experts Concerning the Follow-up of Japan’s Stewardship Code and Japan’s Corporate Governance Code and the Council of Experts on the Stewardship Code.

Her research focuses on corporate governance and stewardship. She has published many papers and books and delivered lectures on corporate governance and stewardship issues including the Corporate Governance Code, Stewardship Code, director independence, executive remunerations, general meetings, cross-shareholdings, fiduciary duties, role of institutional investors, and proxy voting. One of her publications is the OECD Corporate Governance Working Paper “How is corporate governance in Japan changing? --Developments in listed companies and roles of institutional investors --.”

She holds a Ph.D. in Policy Study from Chiba University of Commerce and a Master of Business Law from Yokohama City University. She joined Mizuho Securities in 2002 and transferred to J-RIS Research.
