Akshaya Jha

Akshaya Jha is an Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University. He completed his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2015. His research quantifies the economic and environmental costs and benefits of policies directed at the coal and electricity sectors in both the United States and India. His recent work calculates the health costs of the local air pollution emitted by freight trains, the coal storage and handling process at power plants, as well as the combustion of coal. In related research, he quantifies the economic costs of distortions to power plant operations due to the implementation of cost-of-service regulation and the Clean Air Act.
