Guido Lorenzoni is the Joseph Sondheimer Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau for Economic Research and a consultant for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
His fields of research are macroeconomics and international finance. His recent work has focused on financial crises, on sovereign debt, and on the effects of housing wealth and household debt on aggregate consumption.
Lorenzoni received a PhD in Economics from MIT in 2001. Before joining the University of Chicago in 2022 he worked at Princeton, MIT and Northwestern. In 2009 he received the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship. In 2019 he was elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society. He is a co-editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association and an associate editor of the American Economic Review. In 2021 he served as consultant for the Italian PM Mario Draghi.
