Hans-Werner Sinn

Hans Werner-Sinn is Professor Emeritus of Economics and Public Finance at the University of Munich. He was President of the CESifo Group and also served formerly as President of the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF) and the German Economic Association (Verein für Socialpollitik). He received his doctorate (1978) and Habilitation (1983) from the University of Mannheim and honorary doctoral degrees from the universities of Magdeburg, Helsinki and Leipzig. He taught at the University of Western Ontario, has carried out extended research visits at the Universities of Stanford, Princeton, Jerusalem and Bergen as well as the LSE, and has given many learned lectures such as the Yrjö Jahnsson Lectures, the Stevenson Lecture or the Tinbergen Lecture. He has been awarded a number of scholarly prizes such as the Maastricht University's Europe Prize and is member of the Maximilian's Order. Since 1989 he has served on the Advisory Council of the German Ministry of Economics. Sinn's extensive oevre includes publications in the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the Journal of Public Economics. His book publications include The Euro Trap: On Bursting Bubbles, Budgets and Beliefs, Oxford University Press 2014, The Green Paradox, MIT Press 2012, Casino Capitalism, Oxford University Press 2010, and Jumpstart, The Economic Unifications of Germany, MIT Press 1994, co-authored with his wife Gerlinde Sinn.
