Jozef Konings

Director of the Center for Regional Economic Policy (VIVES) at Ku Leuven, Professor and Dean of Nazarbayev Graduate School of Business at Nazarbayev University

Jozef Konings obtained his PhD in Economics at the London School of Economics in 1994, where he was a student of Nobel prize winner Christopher Pissarides. Konings is a full professor in economics and Dean at the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business (NUGSB). Between 2018 and 2020 he was the subject group head of economics at the University of Liverpool Management School. He is also the founding director of the Center for Regional Economic Policy (VIVES) at KU Leuven, established in 2008. Its purpose is to do evidence based policy research on industrial policy, state reform and drivers of growth. From 2005 until 2009 he was the Dean of the School of Business and Economics at KU Leuven. Konings is also research fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR, London). His research focuses on firm competitiveness, international macroeconomics, and micro drivers affecting macroeconomic fluctuations. He has been involved in numerous research projects from the EU, the OECD, the Asian Development Bank and various Central Banks, including the European Central Bank. Konings has published various papers in leading academic journals, such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the American Economic Review, The Review of Economic Studies, The Review of Economics and Statistics amongst others.
