Head, Economic Analysis, Statistics and Multi-Level Governance Division at Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD)

Rudiger Ahrend is Head of the Economic Analysis, Statistics and Multi-Level Governance Division, OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions & Cities. He has supervised various studies on metropolitan governance, urban productivity, land use, housing, urban transport, and national urban policies. In addition, he has overseen numerous reports on major metropolitan agglomerations and is the main author of The Metropolitan Century: Understanding Urbanisation and its Consequences. On top of his OECD work, he has published widely in both academic journals and newspapers. He previously worked as Head of the Urban Programme in the OECD's Directorate for Public Governance and Territorial Development, Senior Economist in the OECD’s Economic Department and as a Researcher and Independent Consultant. He holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics, as well as degrees in Social Sciences and Mathematics from the University of Göttingen, Paris-IX Dauphine, and the Sorbonne.
