Head of the Fiscal Governance Unit, DG ECFIN at European Commission

Stefan Ciobanu is the Head of the Fiscal Governance Unit in the European Commission’s Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). His team is responsible for policy issues and monitoring in relation to the EU member states’ budgetary frameworks, including the requirements stemming from the Six-pack’s Budgetary Frameworks Directive, the Two-pack and the Fiscal Compact. Prior to joining the European Commission in 2011, he worked in the Romanian public administration on EU affairs (including EMU-related issues) and the management of EU Structural and Cohesion funds. Stefan holds a BA in international business administration from the Academy of Economic Studies and a MA in European public administration from the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (both in Bucharest, Romania).
