Thushyanthan Baskaran

Thushyanthan Baskaran is a Professor of Economics at the University of Siegen (Germany) and a Research Associate at the ZEW Mannheim. Professor Baskaran’s current research focuses on local taxation and tax competition, fiscal federalism, soft budget constraints, fiscal capacity, political budget cycles, political selection, women in politics, and economic development in India and Sub-Saharan African. He studied Economics at the Free University of Berlin and received his PhD in Economics from the University of Heidelberg in 2010. He was previously a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Gothenburg and an Assistant Professor at the University of Goettingen. His work has been published in various international journals such as the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, the Journal of Public Economics and the Journal of Urban Economics.
