Bernard O'Connor

Bernard O’Connor has been practicing EU and WTO law for more than 25 years. In that time he has argued more than 60 cases before the EU Courts in Luxembourg and participated in more than a dozen dispute procedures in the GATT and the WTO. Bernard works in the areas of trade in general, trade defence, food and agriculture. He acts for private traders and public institutions including the Council of the EU and sovereign governments. He qualified as a Lawyer in Dublin and did postgraduate studies at the University of Amsterdam and the European University Institute in Fiesole, Italy. He is a Professor at the Statale University in Milan, teaches agricultural trade law at the World Trade Institute in the University of Bern as well as at IELPO at the University of Barcelona and competition and agriculture at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He has written widely on the laws of origin including The law of Geographical Indications, (Cameron May, London, 2004) Joint Author, Guide to Geographical Indications, linking products and their origins (ITC, Geneva; 2010) and Editor, Agriculture in WTO Law (Cameron May, 2005).
