James Andreoni is a Professor of Economics at the University of California, San Diego. He earned his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1986. He was awarded tenure in 1992 at the University of Wisconsin, and Full Professor in 1996, before joining UCSD in 2006. He is a Sloan Foundation Fellow, a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, and a CESifo Research Fellow. Andreoni is past president of the Economic Science Association, founding member of the Association for the Study of Generosity in Economics, founding member of the International Behavioral Public Policy Association, and is an active member of the Initiative to Accelerate Charitable Giving. Andreoni’s research uses economic theory, behavioral economics, survey data, laboratory experiments, and field experiments to study, among other things, altruistic, prosocial, charitable, and ethical behavior.
